Checklist for Every Home Inspector
FOUNDATION: Movement Indicators
- The following movement indicators were observed indicating that some degree of foundation settlement has occurred. Some degree of foundation settlement is normal for every home. The degree or seriousness of settlement cannot be determined at a onetime general home inspection. If there are any further concerns, an evaluation by a structural engineer is recommended. Movement Indicators:
Doors Latching
- One or more doors are binding or not latching which is indicative of some degree of foundation settlement.
Stress Cracks
- Stress Cracks were observed or have been repaired on interior walls in various areas. This is indicative of foundation settlement. Settlement to some degree is common in every home. The degree of settlement can only be determined by a structural engineer. If there are further concerns, I recommend evaluation by an engineer.
